STRUCK BY STACKING POLE WHILE HAY HARVESTING

Whangarei, Tuesday. Fatal injuries were received by a boy, William Norman Stevens (9) while he was assisting with haymaking operations on his father's farm at Mangatapere on Saturday afternoon. The boy died in the Whangarei Hospital on Saturday evening. While a load of hay was being hoisted on to the stack the wire rope on the stacker broke and released _a heavy pole, which fell on the boy, striking him in the stomach. At the inquest, which was opened yesterday, Dr. C. P. Brunette said that death was due to a hemorrhage following shock and abdominal injuries. The inquiry was adjourned sine die.
