LORD INVERCLYDE SECURES DECREE WITH COSTS CO-RESPONDENT'S GUILT

— P.y Te!e"r>-aph — CnpyrlgUt)

(Rec. Dec. 23) London, Dec. 22. Lord Inverclyde has been granted divorce with expenses against the corespondent, Poanakker. Lord Fleming, in giving' judgment, said the year after her marriage, Lady Inverclyde proposed her husband should pay her £5000 a year uneonditionally. As the solicitors advised that the proposal was illegal the matter was dropped biit it was a material hearing on the case for it demonstrated that ' within a year the parties were so estranged that Lady Inverclyde was eontemplatihg the eontir.gency, as she put it herself, of "going off with another man," and endeavouring to secure ppcuniary provjsion for her husband in the event of that happening1. j Lord Fleming held that on one or more occasioi.s Poanakker h^d spent the whole night in Lady Inverclyde's flat and so expressed the opinion that from the facts proved it was relevant to infer her guilt. His Honour ordered Poanakker to pay Lord Inverclyde's costs and also recoup him for the payments to his wife on the ground that his conduct necessitated the action.
