Mo-ntreaJ, Nov. 11. The f'Mpunties," as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police- are known all over the world, celebrated their 6,0th annivei'sary. The force, originally call.ed the North-West Mounted Police, was iiistitqted' with a strength of 301) officers and men and has now 2,500. It received its present name in 1-921, wfcn ijb was incorporated with the old Domjnion Police. The "Mounties" are pow a land, s,ep, and air force, largely 'emplPyed in pqml)atjng smuggling on the' Ganadiancoasts.
