Wellington, Friday. Sentenced. to death for the murder on June 30 of Mrs. Cecilia S'ihith, George Edward James Was executed at Mount Crawford prison this morning. James slept well last night, and submitted quietly to being pinioned. The procession from the condeinned cell to the scaffold was headed by the -sh'eriif, Mr. W. 'Wi Samson. Theri came the superintendent of the prison, two wafders, two Saivation Army officers, the cOndemiied man, the chief warder, the hangman and representatives of the press. Jam,es mounted the scaffold uiiaided, and less than three minutes elapsed from the time the processioil left the cell until the bolt was drawn. When asked if he had anythinigj to say, James replied: "Good-jbye, everybody. May Cod have rnercy on niy soul."
