WINS THROUGH HURRICANE OF TWO-HUNDRED-MILE FORCE
London, Nov. 4. A sea drama in which the captain of a Liverpool ship brought her through a hurricane, battling at times in a wind of 200 miles an hour, was recalled at Lloyd's oifices, Leadenhall Street, when Sir Percy Mackinnon, the chairman, presented Lloyd's silver madel for meritorious services to Mr. D. L. C. Evans, of Plymouth, captain of the Holt liner Phemius, (7,615 tons). Sir Percy said that they honoured not only Captain Evans but the whole ship's company. "We have here," he said, "a very fine example of the spirit animating the British merchant service; a captain who inspires his officers and crew to carry on when all hope seems lost." The Phemius was struck by a hurricane last year when 150 miles off tho coast of Nicaragua.
