huntly man convicted and heavily fined POLICE DEFIED

Huntly, Friday. Sydney James Foster, aged 25 years, employed as a clothing traveller, of Huntly, pleaded guilty in the Huntly Magistrate's Court, before Mr. F. H. Levien, S.M., to a charge of being intoxicated while in charge of a motor-car in Ralph Street on November 26. Uonstable A. Murray stated that on November 25, as the result of complaints, Constables T. Elms and A. C. Hancox went to a house where a party was being held and stationed themselves on the footpath, where they could observe through the passage into the house. They could see a number of men drinking. Afterwards several men came oakside, and defendant, who had been in the house, went out to his car, which he entered and was ahout to start up when Constable Finis went to defendant and issued a warning. He showed defiance and tjhe coaistable warned him, ag-ain. Defendant still defied him and ordered the constable out of the car. Defendant was then arrested.
Mr. W. G. Clavis, counsel for defendant, stated that defendant had no intention of driving the car home and had arranged for another man to do so. Constable Elms stated that defendant had shown open defiance and had been impudent during the incident leading. up to his arrest. [Defendant was convicted and finsd £15, with costs £1 Is. His lieense was endorsed.
