LYING ON OCEAN FLOOR BETWEEN INDIA AND ARABIA EXPEDITION'S RESEARCH

-By Telegraph — Copyright).

(Rec. 11 p.m.) Calcutta, Dec. 12. Traces -of "Lemuria," the supposed lost continent, in the Indian Ocean and stretching from India to the African and Arabian coasts have been discovered by the Sir John Murray oceanographic expedition, which has completed a three months' survey of the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea, and the Gulf of Oman. The investigations were carried out in the Egyptian Government's survey ship, Mabasiss which steamed 8747 mlies and surveyed large areas of the ocean bed. The discoveries included ten marine hill ranges running from north-east to south-west across the Gulf of Aden and between India and Arabia; two submerged mountain chains, a raised plateau and a deep valley which were not reco'rded -on the present charts. The general configuration of tbe area from tbe entrance of tbe Gulf of Aden to tbe Indian coast leaves little doubt that the sea-bed once was a large land area and that the deep valley was probably a large river bed. Two areas were found where there was nc animal life on the bottom, one being in the Red Sea where there were no living organism below 250 fathoms.
