husband and wife woman admitted to hospital in serious condition a KNIFE EMPLOYED

-By Telegraph — Copyright).

Christchurch, Sunday. A knife wound in the leg was received by Mrs. Betty Churton who lives with her mother in Hutchison Street, Syde'nham, in an affray outside her home in the early hours of the morning. Subsequently her hushand, Alexander James Churton, was arrested and charged with assault so as to causo actual hodily harm. Both Churton and his wife had to receive treatment at the hospital, the former suffering from cuts to two fingers. It is alleged that Mrs. Churton was accosted by her husband with whom she has not been living, at one o'clock in the morning and the knife was used by Churton in the altercation that ensued. In the Magistrate's Court last Thursday, Churton was charged with breaking three windows in his mother-ln-law's house. It was alleged that he had thrown stones through the windows at night. Churton denied any knowledge of the stone throwing and the Magistrate dismissed the case, remaiking at the same time that there was evidently a good deal of feeling between the parties. "
