AMATEUR ATHLETICS

ROTORUA CLUB EXECUTIVE DISCUSSES GENERAL BUSINESS. ' SECOND SERIES ARRANGED. There was a full attendanee of mem- \ bers of the executive of the Rotorua l Amateur Athletic and Cycling Ciuh present at a meeting held last evening, when several matters in connection with the club competitions and the Boxing Day meeting wero considered. The chair was occupied by the president, Colonel E. G. Fraser. The secretary reported that the first series of evening sports meetings had ended last Friday and produced a suggested programane for the second series, which would commence next Friday evening. The programme of events was discussed and passed with amendment. It was also decided ■to present the first series orders at a cluh dance to be held in the Majestic Ballroom on Decemher 6, and allocate the proeeeds to a fund to provide for the travelling expenses of competitors to the sub-centre championships on January 20 at Cambridge. _ In discussion of the programme it was decided that trials for the sub-r f centre championships shohld take place at the evening meeting on Decemher 22 and that the club championship events be decided on February 16, March 2 and 16. Primary School Trophies. The possibility of securing trophies from the Herbert Smith Trust Fund was introduced hy the secretary, who stated that other sporting bodies in the town had been granted these for primary school competition. The club was now regularly catering for this type of competitor and he thought that an application would prove successful. Mr. A. G. Cottrell agreed with the suggestion and considered that the trophies could be utilised for the priimary school events on the Boxing Day Carnival programme. He considered that three cups should he applied for and that immediate application should be made as there was a suggestion that the fund should be closed for this purpose as sufficient lapplications from sports bodies were not forthcoming. Mr. H. J. Ludgate stated that he had received several promises of doi nations of trophies for the Boxing* ■ Day events from business people in Rotorua. I Following a suggestion by Mr. W. I G. Harwood that the cups could he 1 used as primary school championship j trophies later in the season, it was I decided to make application on these I lines to the directors of the fund. i Messrs. G. H. Weir and S. H. I Phipps were appointed seleotors of the club's competitors at the Waikato j sub-centre championships for track ; and cycling events respectively. j Arrangements for the Boxing Day j carnival meeting of the club were j advanced a further stage and the ap- ' pointment of officials for the meeting j were left to the secretary. The secretary reported a donation of £2 2s by Dr. Dorset to the club's funds and was instructed to forward \ a lctter of appreciation to the donor
