AMENDING BILL LEGISLATION INTROD.UCED AFTER TWENTY YEARS: NEW GROUNDS DEFINED

(Rec. 7.10 p.m.) London, Nov. 29. Twenty-one years after the sittings of the Royal Commissions on Divorce, a private members' Bill is being introduced in the House of Commons sponsored by Mr. Hulford Knight, Sir J. Withers, Mr. Slater, Colonel Goodman, Miss Ratlibone and others on the lines of the Commission's majority report. T^he Bill permits divorce by either party on any of the following grounds: Adultery, desertion for three years, cruelty, certiffed iunacy for five years or incurable drunkenness, for at least three years' separation, or the undergoing of imprisonment under a commuted death sentence. The court is also empowered to presume death after seven. years' absenee.
