ROTORUA ASSN.
DECISION OF CLUB MATCH TO BE REFERRED TO N.Z. COUNCIL OOUNTRY W1EEIC TOURNAMENT The N Management Committee of the Rotorua Cricket Association held its usual fortnightly meeting in Mr Musgrave's rooms on Monday evcning, Mr. H. L. Musgrave occupying the chair. iCorrsspondence from th'e Auckland Cricket Association to thg Bay of Plenty Association was referred to the meeting. It advised that a country week rwas to be held in Auckland during Christ'mas week and that a match Town v. Cormtry (in which Auckland's leading Plunket Shield players would be participating) had been arranged for December 15 and 16. Favourable comment was passed on Auckland's initiative in arranging thesg -matches, and club secretaries were instructed to supply the association secretary with nominations for the Town v. Country match before Friday, December 1. These nominations iwill be submitted to the selector before being forwarded to Auckland:" The names of N. Hinton and G. Beale were .approved by the committee subject to their being able to obtain the necessary leave. Club secretaries were also advised to prepare a list of players who would be available to play in the Country W eelc tournament from December 25 to 29, and to advise the secretary by Monday, December 4. | The match, Mamaku v. High Scnool which had uot been played in the second series owing to a misunderstanding, was fixed as a draw, two points each. The third series of matches resulted as follows, Albion 4 points v. Mamaku 0; High School 3, v. Ngongotaha 1. • The result of the match Old Boys v. City was undecided pending a deeisiou from the New Zealand Cricket Council. A Knotty Point Much discussion took place on the result of the City y. Old Boys match the eircumstances being probably without parallel in New Zealand cricket. Old Boys had batted first, and City in the first innings, had passed their opponents' seore. In their second innings Old Boys had scor-
ed quickly and declared and then, witn the last ball of play, had disposed of the ninth City batsmen, their last man having been called away for business reasons. During City's sccond innings, their c-aptain is underwood to liave stated to the Old Boys' captain that he would allow extra timc owing to the delay in ono of his batsmen going to the wiclcets. Old Boys stated that City's last batsman should have gone in to bat duiing tiiis extra timc, and as he was not oresent claimed four points for an outright win. City claimed three points for a win on the first innings, quoting the rulc which states that if a .wicket falls within two minutes of time stumps be drawn, wbether the over be complcted or not. j A most interesting discnssicn toox j place on the question, delegates from j iboth ciubs comment ing on the sport- j ing manner in which the match hal , been played, and one or two ir.cidents i which had evcntuated during the course of the game were relatei, I showing the sportsmanlike actions of | both captains. Although the general opinion ap- i peared to he that the match should j be awarded to City on the first ; jxmings, a sub-committc e consisting t of Mr. M. H. Hampson (City), Mr j N. Hinton (Old Boys) ,and the _ see- j retary, Mr. Gresham, was appointed to collaborate and send the facts to j the New Zealand Cricket Council for its ruling. Draw for Saturday Matches arranged to comrnence on | Saturday, December 2 were: — Albim v. City, Government Grounds, No. 1; 'Ngongotaha v. Mamaku, at Mamaku, Old Boys v. High School, at High School. It was decided to invite a team from Auckland to play in Rotorua or. Anniversary Day, J.anuary 29, and the Old Boys Club was granted permission to play Hamilton Old Boys at Rotorua on the sa'me date, on the conditions that members of the club selected fo the representative team sbould play for the Rotorua team. Permission was granted the High School to play Hamik-n High School j at Rotorua on December 14 and 15. j ■B. Bragg's reinstat-ment was con- > firmed and the chairman reported that the new mat had arriv-ed in A jckland from India and should he m Rotorua next week. The secretary was instructed to write to the Bay of Plenty sub-asso-ciation and endcavour to ariange a match Rotorua v. Bay of Plenty, either ax Rotorua or in a Bay of Plenty town.
