MORE MEN WANTED SHQRTAQE OF DETgCTIVES COMPLAINED OF IN HOUSE UNDETECTED ORIMES
rBy Telegraph— Copyrlght).
Wellington, Tuesday. Discussing the Police Department estimates in the House this evening Mr. D. G. Sullivan (Labour, Avon), said reference had been made in the department's report to the need for the appointment of additional detec-
tives. He said he hoped that a lack pf men was not being allowed to be connected with the failure to detect a number of crimes of late. He referred particularly to the recent Riccarton •case and said that failure to detect crimes of this nature was a serious matter. He suggested an interchange of men between New Zealand and Britain in order that New Zealand might obtain the benefit of experience at Scotland Yard. Other members urged that more money could be profitabjy spent in acquiring fast cars for members of the pojice force. The Hpn. J. G. Cobhe said that to supply all stations with fast "cars would take more money than the department could afford at present, but the representations would be kept steadily in view."
