BEAUTY QUEEN'S PERIL. Helene Verzea, a Rumanian beauty queen, met with. an alarming- adventure recently, the consequence of an ; encounter with a bear. A member of a climbing party in th Carpathians in which sh'e was taking part caught sight of a bear which made no attempt to interfere with them. One of the men, however, fired a sh'ot which wounded the animal and it charged the party. The party scattered and Miss Verzea fell into a deep ravine. Fortunately, her dress caught in a tree stump or she would have been dashed to death. As it was, she was suspended in this position for 15 hours before she was rescued.
