PERIODS NOTIFIED BY REGULATIONS IN GAZETTE. The New Zealand Gazette contains regulations fixing terms and-holidays to be observed in public, secondary, j technical ,and combined scho'ols. In tbe case of public schools the | first term is to hegin on the first j day of February or the fifth Monday of the calendar year, whichever is the later, pfovided that whenever the first day of February falls on Thursday ,the first term shall begin on the Monday of the following week. The first term shall end on the Friday i immediately preceding the 19th Monday of the calendar year. The second term shall begin on the 21st Monday of the calendar year .and shall end on the Friday immediately preceding the 34th Monday, of the calendar year; and the third term shall begin on the 36th Monday of the calendar year and shall end approximately 15 weeks thereafter on such date as may be decided by the education board. In the cas:es of secondary schonls, technical schools and combined schools the first term shall begin on the Tuesday next after the first day of February and shall end on the Thursday or Friday immediately preceding the 19th Monday -of the calendar year, ,a.ccordin'g as the governing body may decide. The second term shall begin on the Tuesday immediately following the 21st Monday of the year, and shall end on the Thursday 01* Friday immediately preceding the 34th Monday of the ye,ar. The third term shall begin on the Tuesday immediately following the 37th Monday and shall end on such date as the governing body may decide. All schools are to he closed on the, following' days: — iGood Friday, Easter Monday, Easter Tuesday, Anzac Day (when this day falls on a school day), birth'day of the reigning Sovereign, Labour Day, Anniversary Day of the provinee and the day of a Parliamentaxy election, if the school building is required for electoral purposes. Approval may he 'given of such variation of the requirements of the regulations as may he necessary to meet climatic or other special condi • tions existing in any education district or part (of a district.
