August 14, 1897.— That the Wairoa j 8 (Hawke's Bay) railway league has I some idea that the proposed iGshome- B Rotorua light railway may be diverted 1 into the Bay of Plenty seems to be 1 indicated hy the fact that the league I has written to the Whakatane County Council enquiring what plans, if any, it may have formed on the subject. Councillor Drury expressed an opinion that the railway should be via Waimana to Galatea in preferenee to the Te Teko route, as the former would open up a better class of country. August 21, 1897.— The work of layAugust 21, 1897.— The proprietors of the Grand Hotel have purchased J rfom Mr. T. Sampson th'e seddon at I the corner of Fenton Street and Pu- | kuatua Street.
