HIGH SCHOOL AND CITY WIN ON FIRST INNINGS ALBION GAIN FOUR-POINTER The third series of the Rotorua Cricket Assoeiation's McLean Cup competition was completed on Saturday afternoon. Easy Win for Albion Albion did not continue their first innings at Mamaku and declcired with eight wickets down for 225, J. J. Lewis (44) and J. R. Lewis (2) being not out batsmen. Faced with a defieit of 160 runs on the first innings, Mamaku started badly in the second visit to the crease and the first three batsmen made only seven runs. With the assistance of two sixes Reed improved tho score with the addition of 20 bef oi e he was eaught by Sutherland off Wallis, bnt the tail failed to last and being three batsmen short, the side was all out for 38 runs. For Albion Sutherland closed the innings with the fine figures of three wickets for f our runs off four overs, while Wallis also took three wickets at a cost of 26 runs. Albion First Innings Total for eight wickets (dec.) 225 An Exciting Finish In a race against time Old Boys played an exciting match against City (which although behind on runs had one wicket in hand when stumps wero drawn for the day) and gained a two-point win on the first innings. Nineteen runs behind the Old Boys' first innings total at stumps the previous day, City carried its total past that of the opposing team without further loss, and mainly due to a solid stand by Hickey, gained a thir-teen-run lead on the innings. Adopting aggressive tactics, the Old Boys played delightful cricket in the second innings by scoring at the rate of two runs a minute. Hinton (23), Spedding (32), Beale (31), all scored runs quickly, as did Lunn, who was 36 not out when the innings was declared closed at 150 for the loss of five wickets. Aceurate bowding by Neeson spelt disaster for City in their second innings, Porter (13), Alexander (10) and Thomas (13) being the only bats- • men making double figures. The nin+h wicket fell for 53 runs on the final delivery of the day. For 01.1 Boys Neeson took seven wickets for j 3 6 runs off six overs. High Schoo! Win High School narrowly missed a four-point win against Ngongotaha by' an innings at the High School grounds/but gained a win on the first innings. In reply to the school team's total of 190 runs for the first innings (ineluding a confident knock of 111 runs by Higgins for the first century of the season), Ngongotaha mad© only 48 runs, but in the second innings had lost nine wickets for 106 at stumps. In this total Harding and Paull "both played confidently to contribute 38 runs each, the only other double figure scorer being Bowden, who scored 10.
