BURGLAR TAKES CHANCE OF A CHARGE OF SHOT CHASiE: AT W7IRI

Auckland, Thursday A burglar escaping from the post office and store at Wfiri early this morning had a shot fired at him, but escape d in the darkness. The same store has been visited by burglars several times. It is situated 15 miles from Auckland, on the Great South Road. The proprietor, M*'. L. W. Wfilson, was ai-oused by suspicious sounds. He telephoned two neighbours, one of whom, Mr. J. Lyons, saw a man running down the ro;ad. "Sta'nd, or I fire"' h'e called, hut the man took no heed, and he fired, using a shotgun. The three men chased the burglar down the road, but he eluded them. Little was stolen from th'e store.
