PREPARATIONS UNDER WAY FOR CORONATION CELEBRATIONS BIG GATHERING EXPECTED
Hamilton, Thursday. The Maoris of Waahi Pa, near Huntly, are making preparations to celebrate the 21st anniversary of the coronation of the late King Te Rata Mahuta, who died recently. The celebration, which will he attended by a representative gathering of all tfibes, will take place to-morrow, and will be the final function in connection with the late King. Several tribes are meeting to-day at Waahi Pa to consider the further adniinistration of affairs under the newly-appointed King Kiroki. To date about 300 or 400 Maoris have arrived from Wanganui, Pukekohe, and various parts of the Waikato, and many more are expected from Rotorua and the East Coast by to-morrow. The celebrations will conclude tomorrow evening and it is expected that the Maoris will disperse almost immediately.
