DAMAGES AGAINST FILM STAR
Mrs .Marian ,Read was awarded £15,000 at Los Angeles against the film star, Miss Claire Windsor, for alienation of affections. Mrs. Read charged Miss Windsor with stealing the love -of her husband, Mr. Alfred C. Read, president of the San Francisco Security Corporation, Mrs. Read laughed and cried when -her victory was announced, and speetators ap-plauded. Miss Windsor seemed stunned. "It is outrageous," she said, adding that she did not see how she could ever pay it, since she was at present without meians. Later she declared that she would marry again if necessary to escape paying. "Rather than work so that Mrs. Read can- collect the money I will remarry," she said. Her counsel says that an appeal will be lodged. The damages are amion-g the largest ever secured' in Southern California.
