AUCKLAND EDUCATION BOARD ACQUIESCES IN CLOSING

Auckland, Thursday. The chairman of the Auckland Education Board, Mr. T. U. Wells, when asked if he had any comment to make on the announcement of the closing of the Auckland Training College, 'said: "The board deeided this morning to inf orm Mr. Masters that, while it regretted that such action should be neeessary, it could not do otherwise than aequiesce. - It is estimated that at the beginning of next year there will be a surplus of 966 teachers in the Dominion for whom no positions will he available. The 'wastage' in the profession is about 300 teachers /a year, so that there is something like three years' supply in sight."
