A BOGUS GUEST ROBS LORD ROSEBURY'S HOMiE BAUL WORTH £4000
London, October 6. Mistaken for a guest of th'e Earl of Rosebery, at the Earl's home, Dalmeny House, West Lothian, a young man ransacked the house at his leisure and left with a pearl necWace valued at over £4000. The necklace is the only one simiiar to that worn by Mary ^ Queen of Scots, and now in the custody of the National Museum. This remarkable story was unfolded at Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday, when two men were accused of housebreaking. Wlilliam McGleish, against whom there was one charge, . was sentenced to four months' imprisonment, while Rober't M'eechan, against whom whom there were six charges, was remitted to the High Court for sentence. Meechan, prosecutor declared, seemed to believe in getting in among the highest in the land. He broke into occupied houses in Crieff, and on three occasions disturbed the occupants, who saw him leaving. These raids were all commi'tted on the same night. When he broke into Dalmeny House on the night of August 30 he disturbed a nursemaid, who saw him flash his torch along a corridor. She paid no attention, thinking that he was one of the guests who had attended a house party earlier in the evening. The following morning the burglary was discovered. The pearl necklace. a diamond and platinum brooch', four medallions and other valuables were missing.
