GOLD IN BANKS
SURRENDER AT PAR RESENTED IN FINANCIAL CIRCLES ' STEP ILL- ADVISED (Rec. 7.15 p.m.) London, Nov. 15. The Financial News says that the intention of the New Zealand' Government to compel the banks operating in the Dominion to surrendel' their gold holdings at par has caused indignation in banking circles in London. Several of the banks affected are British institutions registered here. The measure therefore is not a purely internal concern. The loss in-. yolved is eonsiderable and the banks have every reason to resent th'e unfair treatment. It is hoped that the ill-advised steps will be reconsidered before it becomes law.
