mutilated body found beside the line

Ashburton, Tuesday. The mutilated body of James joseph Dwyer, aged 44 years, single, -a labourer, was found beside the railway line a mile below Hinds, 12 miles from Ashburton, at 5.30 this morning. Dwyer had been struck by the south-bound train, probably about 2 a.m., and the body dragged six- yards along the track. It is not known how Dwyer came to be on the line at that hour. •• He served in France.
