— By Telegraph— Copyright).
Hastings, Monday. The following resolutions dealing with the recent reductions in the allocations for unemployed men were carried unanimously at a largely attended meeting held in Hastings this evening : — (1) "That this meeting, representative of the professional, commercial and local body interests in this district, appeals to the Government to re store immediately .the same allocation as obtained in September last as the reductions imposed will create untold hardship and suffering_ on those citizens who are already in a condition of acute impoverishment and who are forced to accept relief work." (2) "That this meeting urges upon the Government the urgent need for acquiring furthe.v lands in this district for sub-division into small holdings for relief workers and is of the opinion that such a scheme offers one of the most promising avenues of employment for these relief workers." These two resolutions will be brought hefore the Minister by Mr. H. M. Campbell, M.P.
