LIQUOR AFTER HOURS

LIGHT FINES IMPOSED IN HAMILTON CASES AN UPSTAIRS BAR Hamilaon, Monday Pleas of not guilty were abandoned during proceedings in cases to-day in which James Carson, licensee of the Commercial Hotel, was charged with opening his premises for the sale of liquor after hours and selling liquor. Dudley Reginald Barford, barman, was charged with supplying liquor to Charles Joseph McCabe and Leo Patrick Crosby respectively and selling liquor after hours. Evidence showed that Sergeant Annis and Constable Harris found two men drinking in an upstairs bar on the evening of October 30. First they state d they were boarders, and then said they went in for a drink. The licensee had no knowledge that the men were served with liquor. Mr. N. S. Johnson submitted that there was insufficient evidence that the men were not boarders. The fact that they had not booked in was inconclusive. Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M.: I regard the evidence as sufficient in that case. "We plead guilty," replied Mr. Johnson. Carson was convicted and fined £1 for selling liquor, and convicted and ordered to pay costs for opening the premises. Barford was fined £1 on each of three charges, and McCabe was was fined £1 for being on licensed premises after hours.
