CROQUET SEASON
PRESIDENT EXPRESSES HOPE FOR MOST ENJOYABLE MATCHES PRiOGRE S S-I VE' TOURNEY, In dull, but mild weather, the 193334 season of the Rotorua Croquet I Club was opened at the Government ! Grounds on Saturday afternoon, when the president, Mrs. B. M. Green, welcomed' old and new members and called upon the Mayoress, Mrs. T. Jackson (who is also patroness of the club) to play the first ball of the season. In ber opening address, Mjrs. Green welcomed- past and new members of j the club and expressed the hope that - the season would prove a most enjoyable one for them all. She referred to the ideal surroundings in which the club's greens .were situated and considered that it was very fortunate in this respect. Continuing, the president said that croquet was a splendid game which, in company with o'ther sports, had great characterforming qualities and at the same time was responsible for the formation of many lasting and valued friendships. After the first ball had been played by Mrs. Jackson, a progressive tournament was played, the winners in the two grades ibeing the following: A grade: Mrs. Blencowe 1, Mrs. Manson 2. B Grade: Mrs. Banks 1, Mrs. Pakes 2. Consolation: Mrs. Thompson. At the conclusion of the tourney Mrs. Green presented the trophies, and an enjoyable afternoon tea was served'in the Tea Kiosk.
