CRICKETER’S DEATH

i"CHUMMY" HEMUS PASSES j AFTER A SEVERE / ILLNESS Auckland, Friday. The death is anounced of Mr. L. G. ("Chummy") Hemus, New Zealand representative cricketer in 1907, 1910, 1913, and 1914. He had four Plunket Shield centuries to'his credit for Auckland. .One of his best knocks was 112 for Auckland against Sims' Australian eleven in February, 1914, the bowlers including Mailey, Armstrong, Laver, Noble and Collins. His death occurred last night from pneumonia. Mr. Hemus was also a remarkably fine billiards player. Mr. Hemus was aged. 49. He is survived by his wife and one son and three daughters. He died at four o'clock this morning. It was believed that he had survived the crisis, and his death came as a shock to his relatives.
