WIFE OBJECTS TO BEARD. A Paris Divorce Court has heen asked to consider the question whether the growing of a beard by a man constitutes cruelty to his wife. Alternatively, it is asked to state whether or not the length of a beard should be controlled. A woman engaged in business has applied for divorce on the ground that h'er husband has an enormous beard. She deelares that it makes him such an object of ridicule that she d;slikes being seen abroad in his company. After she had been made to realisa clearly that her husband would not sacrifice his beard, even for her, she suggested a compromise. She would be satisfied, she said, if he would re- | duce its length by half. I Therefore, if divorce cannot be granted on the ground of cruelty, she •claims that her husband's attitude at least justifies a plea of incompatibility of temperanient.
