NEVER DANGEROUS

EIGHT LENGTHS BEHIND New York, Oct. 25. The start of the race was good with no delay at the barrier. All five st&rt'ers broke together with Charaoter first to show on top by a short margin. Kerry Patch was second and Winooka third, Mate being last at this point. All for the first quarter of a mile raced closely bunched with Character now leading by half a length. Goldstep then moved into second posi'tion, Mate being third, Winooka fourth and Kerry Patch last. The Challenger was in tight corner when nearing the three furlongs post and fell back to last place. He reeovered quickly and replaced Kerry Patch, but only momentarily, in fourth position. Midway in the turn it was plain that Winooka was a beaten horse.. He would not come on, and despite hard urging by Britt he fell back steadily and apeared very tired at the end, though he seemingly pulled up in good shape after the finish. Winooka was beaten by a total of eight and three-quarters lengths by the winner. Winooka was led through the paddock early by Mr. Polson and was acclaimed by his well-wishers, including prominent society and turf figi ures. Winooka laaade a beautiful appeai*ance. Mr. Polson was confident before the race, and Mr. Naylor said : "It is Winooka's eincla."
