| Baltimore, Oct. 25. The six furlongs race for the 3250 dollar Challenge Purse in which "Winooka was engaged, was decided today. • The Australian champion, who earried 8st 81b, was the last to finish. The race resulted1: — • M'ATE, 8.8 1 COLDSTEP, 8.8 2 KERRY PATCH, 8.4 ...... ...... 3 CHARACTER, 8.4 ...... 4 WINOOKA, 8.8 5 The racing editor of the New York Times says: "Winooka should . not be too quickly condemned as his Australian record entitles him to further consideration. His three races in six months in this country, with very little competition, particularly in the . first two races were of little aecount. ."The present race may in many respects be regarded as Winooka's 'first competitive effort. "Winooka was made favourite chiefly on talk and not on his perf oi*mance in America. > , , "The public view had been distorted by prolonged negotiations, and lack of action. "Many professional selectoa's picked Winooka to win and he ruled a consistent favourite. The time was 1.12- 4-5 over"a fast track — not especially a good time for the Laurel course."
