London, October 25. Lieut.-Commander John Hu^h Lewis, who comimanded the subrnarine L26, was court-martialled and ■charged with stranding the submarino and neglecting after grounding to ensure sufficient examination of the batteries beforo charging. Expert evidence was given that nothing could explain the explosion. The court found the char-ges prov•ed and dismissed Lewis from the ship and sevtrely reprimanded him. Three ratings were fatally injured, and 14 seriously, five being gassed, as the result of a mysterious explosion on the subniarine L26, at Caxnpbeltown Harhour, while the men were at dinner on October 8. The officers were unhurt. The previous day L26 was proceeding to the same manoeuvres and rau aground at' Kintyre but was suecessfully I'efloated and proceeded to Campbeltown.
