TOWN LIBRARY
APPLICATION TO BE MADE TO CARNEGIE TRUST QUESTION OF MUSEUM The Library and Museum Committee of the Rotorua Borough Council reported to Wednesday night's meeting of the council that after thoroughly investigating the matter it had reached the conclnsion that it was not feasible to establish a borough museum in the Carved House at Whakarewarewa as had been proposed. However, it had been decided to endeavour to secure the co-operation of the natives at 'Whaka in weaving mats and pois, etc., for the purpose of decorating the house and making it more attractive to visitors. The mayor (Mr. T. Jackson) said that one of the chief objections to establishing the museum in the house was that other museum authorities would not lend exhibits to be honsed in a wooden building with the additional risk of fire. • The Museum Committee recommended that in order to provide a suitable building an application be made. to the Carnegie Trust for a grant to assist in the erection Of a library and museum in the Town Square. It was decided to make application as recommended.
