Improving Hinemoa Street A commencement has been made j iby the Borough Council in improving i the footpath at the northern side of I Hinemoa Street West between Fenton and Amohia Street. The concrete kerbing is now well in hand and when the channelling is completed a start will ihe made with laying the concrete slabs. The Blue Bath Wiork The last mix of concrete was poured into the walls of the uncompleted section of the Blue Bath buildimg yesterday afternoon. The next work will probahly he the placing of the beams to hold the p^nelled cei'ling of the tea rooms, but' apart from that there is still a great amount of work to- be done and rapid progress will require to ibe made to have the building completed by Christmas. Building Society. An appropriation meeting of the Rotorua Bui'lding Society was held .on Wednesday night, MJr.- D. Jervis,chainman of the society, presiding. The business was to offer £400 for .sale by tender and the successful Ifcender was £55 10s per £200. New Picture Theatres The announcement that the J. C. Williamson Picture Corporation, Ltd., encouraged by the . improvement in business eonditions, had decided to build a new theatre in Hastings and several theatres in the suburbs of Auckland, was made by Mr. Beaumont Smith, managing director of the corporation, who arrived from Sydney at Wellington by the Wanganella on Tuesday. Wheroabouts Unknown "What happened to the museum exhibits that the council used! to have. they used to he in this building," said Cr. J. Banks at Wednesday evening's meeting of the Rotorua Borouigjh Council. No one seemed to know and a suggestion from one councillor that "perhaps they were pawned" was th'e only contribution forthcoming. Cunning Horses "This refers to certain horses which are so cunning that they cannot be caught single-handed," said the Miayor (Mr. T. Jackson) at Wednesday night's meeting of the Rotorua Borough Council when authority was igiven the poundkeeper to obtain assistance to impound a nnmber of horses which had been regularly wandering in the streets of. the borough. Instructions had been given that when the horses were caught, the owners must be prosecuted. A Shock r Building permits aggregating £5160 were passed by the Rotorua Borough ; Council at its meeting on Wednesday . night. One permit for a petrol service station ion the corner of Fenton Street and Wairoa. Road was for £5000. "Is this right?" asked one councillor when the permit was considered. "I did not think there was so rnuch money in the provlnce."
