STRONGBOX PROVES TOO SERIOUS A PROBLEM DEPART EMPTY-HANDED
-By Telegraph — Copyright).
Sydney, October 24 An unsuccessful attempt by two men to rob a mail train from Newcastle to Sydney failed early this morning. The men were masked. One was armed with a revolver and the other with a piece of loaded hose. They boarded the train at Broadmeadow station, their object apparently being to seize a box in the guard's van and detrain at Adamstown, which is a conditional stopping place. They compelled the guard to lie on the floor, where he was found. The box defied their attempt owing to being chained to the van. When the train reached Adamstown it slowed down and the men jumped off and disappeared without their booty. The guard was not injured.
