Washington, Oct. 18 Although' farm prices increased 32 per cent. against the average for the yeiar ended Mar-ch, i!b is understood the President (Mr. Roosevelt), feels they ,are not yet high enough. Hiigh officials of the automohile industryf failed to appeiar at the hearing to-day before the National La•bour Board on the tool an-d die miakers' strike. It is understood they d-e--clined to- come declardng* that no- National Recovery Act code question was involved. Mr. Alvin Maciaulay (head of the National Automohile Cbaamber of Commerce as well as Packard Motors), and Mr. William Knudson (execultiye vice-presidentj -of Ge-nieral Motors), have been -called. Both are understood t0 have s-ent refusialis by telegram. The employing groups contsnded that no question of arhitration is involved since th'e workers- at Flint (Detroit) have returned to- ibheir johs. The opp-osing gro-up- stated that 17,000 are -still striking. The strike in the colleries of the Hudson Coal Company, in the Pe-nn-sylvania anthnacite area, called some weeks- ago, to-day spread to- include 20,000 workers in the whole field. The President (Mr. Roosevelt) announced to-day that the- 500,000,000 dollars lo-an for the redemption of bonds was subscribed nearly fourfold.
