BAD INFLUENCE

EFFECT OF READING TOO MANY TRASHY BOOKS Hamilton, Saturday. Some strong comments upon the pernicious influence on youthful minds of a certain type of cheap detective and adventure fiction imported from America were made by Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Children's Court at Hamilton this morning, when a fifteen-year-old youth appeared on several charges of theft from letters and converting bicycles. The evidence showed that the youth had been visiting Claudelands homes and removing mail from letter-hoxes. ' He ' said he was "looking for a love letter."Tt seemed that he had been getting ideas from cheap American magazines. The youth was also charged with ' taking money from clofhing in the : clbak-room of St. Aidan's Church, Claudelands, on* Sunday evening. He- was placed under the supervision of the Child' 'Welfare Officer for two years. .
