OPENING DAY'S PLAY e Wanganui, Thursday. Ideal weather prevailed for the opening of the New Zealand ladies' golf championship at Belmont links this morning. The opening event, the inter-island match, was won by the North Island by five games to one with two all square. The surprise of the day was the almost perfect golf of Miss Healean (Castlecliff Club) in her match with Miss Acheson, of Nelson, returning a card of 77, the besUof the match. Miss Gaisford Beats Miss Kay A large gallery followed Miss B. Gaisford and Miss O. Kay, which was won by the former', 3 and 2. The winner played splendid golf. Miss Kay was two up at the turn, but Miss Gaisford won the first four holes on the homeward journey in two under bogey, to make her two up. The next two were halved, and the game finished in Miss Gaisford's favour, 3 and 2.
