EQUIPPED WITH GUN FIRING HUNDRED SHELLS A MINUTE WARFARE OF FUTURE
— By Telegraph — Copyright).
(Rec. 9.45 p.m.) London, October 10. A startling glimpse of the future of air warfare was provided by the launching of the first of four Perth flying boats built for the Air Ministry. The ship is armed at the bows with a quick-firing gun capable of discliarging lllb shells at the rate of 100 a minute. It carries also three machine guns and 20001bs of bombs. The machine itself weighs about 15 tons and is driven by three Rolls Royce Buzzard engines each. of 825 to 930 horespower. Its maximum speed will be 132 m.p.h. and its normal cruising range 870 miles. It seems incredible that the ship would stand the reeoil of the quickfiring gun but this problem has been effectively solved.
