ELSWORTH VINES FINALLY ADMITS HIS CHANGE TO JOIN TILDEN
-By Telegraph — Copyright).
New York, October 9. Elsworth Vines, until lately national singles tennis champion of
America, has turned professional according to an announeement made today by W. T. Tilden. He will make his professional debut in a match against Tilden at Madison Square Gardens on January 10. Vines has signed a one-year contract on terms which Tilden refuses to disclose. "I will not discuss the terms except to say they were mutually satisfactory," said Tilden, "and that Vines has signed a contract with me. I do, however, wish to make it clear that Vines had no agreement and did not sign anything until after he finished his amateur career in the Pacific and South-West tourney last month at Los Angeles."
