Auckland, Sunday The Leader of the O.pposition, Mr. H. E. Holland, died suddenly at Huntly at 4145' p.m. to-day. Death was due to heart failure. Earlier in the afternoon, Mr. Holland, in company with members of Parliament, had attended the funeral of the late Maoi-i King, Te Rata Mahuta, a"t Taupiri. When the furieral r'eached the summit of Taupiri Mountain where the intermdnt took place, Mr. Holland eomplained of feeling unwell to Mr. W. J. Jordan, M.P., upon whose arhi he 1'Oaned for siipport. Half-Way through the servide Mr. Holland hecame suddenly pale and said to JMr. Jordan, "Hold me, I feel faint." After receiving a tonic from members o'f the St. John Ambulance Brigade, Mr. Holland rested a while and when he had sufficiently recovered, he was assisted down the* hill and driven back to Huntly in a car. On arrival at Huntly about 4.30 p.m. he appeared to be considerably better and Walk'ed without difilculty from the car to the home of Mr. W. E. C. George, Mayor of Huntly, where he expressed a Wish to lie down and rest. He was made comfortable on a bed, but immediately collapsed. Dr. McFarlane arrived a few minutes after 4.45 o'clock but life was then extinct. The doctor said that death was due to heart failure. Mr. Holland left Wellington by train at 3 p.m. bn Saturday and was joined at Ohakune by the president of the New Zealand Labour Party, Mr. F. Langstone, M.P., who shared his compartment with him. After his arrival at Huntly, he proceeded to Waahi Pa where he wa's extended a welcome by various tribal chiefs. He was one of the spea"kers of the Parliamentary party and was later the guest of the Maoris at luncheon. The body was taken to Hamilton to be embalmed. To-morrow afternoon it will be returned to Huntly at the request of the Maori people e'onveyed through Sir Apirana ' Ngata- and will rest for an hour at Waahi Pa before being taken by train to Wellington where it will arrive on Tuesday. J. Savage, M.P., deputyleader of the Parliamentary Labour Party, when interviewed.' "There is no room for doubt that Mr. Holland's . uhtiring activities hastened his end. His death leaves a gap in the ranks of the Labour Party that will he extremely hard to fill. Members of the party always placed the most implieit trust in him as a leader and his death will come as a great shock."
