annual meeting ROTORUA CLUB DISCUSSES ARRANGEMENTS FOR SEASON OFFICERS ELECTED There was a lai'ge attendance at the annual general meeting of the Rotorua Amateur Athletic and Cyc- ' ling Club held in the Dolly y arden tearooms last evening, the president, Colonel E. G. Fraser, pccupying the chair. " " , ' The president, Col. E. G. Fraser, remarked upon the satisfactory position of the club as the result' pf th© past year's activities and said that he was particularly pleased' at the support which had been given to the club by the competitors of the Rotorua High School. He paid a tribute to the generosity of Mr. D." Cambie in connection with the provision of a shed on the Government Grounds for the club and the valuable equipment donated through tfie season, which placed the club in a very strong position. The public had also rendered valuable assistance in donating tr,ophies for the carnivaL meeting held on Boxing Day. He formally moved the adoption of the report and balance sheet. In seconding the president's mption Mr. W. G. Harwood considered th&t it was remarkable the progress thp club had made in but two ye^rs of its existence. The secretary read correspondence which had been addressed 'to the secretary of the Waikato sub-pentrp aiid stated the difficulti'es which had been encountered in receiving sqtisfactory replies.'He bad now however received a letter explaining the position fro'm the secretary of the sub-c'entre with a promise of better attentiqn to club correspondence in the future. It was decided to leaye co.nsideration of the letter to the ineoming committee. The secretary reported hqving received advice of the format'ion o"f an amateur club at Whakatane, which had requested the assistance of the Rotorua club in necessary information and the control of its "first meeting on Boxing Day. With another member of the executive he had attended a meeting at Whakatane on Thursday evening and provided the , new club with The information required. Election of Officers The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follows: — Patron, Mr. D. Cambie; president, Colonel E. G. Fraser; vice-presidents, Messrs W. G. Harwood, E. C. Adpiph, A. de Luen, Mesdames, A. G. Cottrell and D. W. Steele; hon.-assistant secretary, Mr. W. H. Pitts; hon-treas- • urer, Mr. W. S. Henderson; clubcaptain, Mr. W. Young; ladies, qj[ub captain, Miss. E. Hardie; committee, | Miss B. Cottrell, Messrs T. S. Robertson, A. G. Cottrell, J. E. Learning, H. J. Ludgate, S. Phipps, A. Beckett ah'd Burns; hon. auditor, Mr. L. H. GresIiam, starter, Mr. G. H. Weir; assistant starter, S'gt. -Major W. Bates. General Some diseussion occurred upop thc question of the advisability of having only one handicapper for cycling qnd track events but after diseussion Messrs G. H. Weir (track) and S. H. Phipps (cycling) were appointed. Discussing the question qf weekly or two-weekly sports meetings, Mr. Sheaf considered the weekly meetings last season had proved most satisfactory and had maintained" the interest of competitors and the public and after diseussion it was decided on the motion of Mr. Cambie," that the sports meetings be held weekly as during the previous season. It was agreect to hold the opening s.ports meeting on the evening of Friday, October 13, a training night to be held on October 6. A Life Member Mr. D. Cambie was unanimously elected a life member of the club, the. mover, Mr. Harwood, statipg that Mr Cambie's work for the club "would always be reeorded in its histqry and that it was only fitting that he should be the first life member elected. Mr. Cambie suitably replied.
