BAND CONTEST

PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS DISCUSSED BY COMMITTEE MEETING LAST EVENING Premliminary arrangements in connection with the South Auckland Brass Band contest to be held in Rotorua on Easter Saturday, and Monday of 1934 were advanced a further stage at a meeting of the contest committee. There were present, the Mayor, Mr. T. Jackson (in the chair) Messrs -O. H. Coleman, J. Banks, F. E. Stewart, W. Bates, H. Fuller. The following sub-committees were set up: — Accommodation, H. Fuller (convenor), D. W. Steele, M. Roland; grounds, J. Banks (convenor), G. Freneh, W. Bates; Publicity and advertising, F. E. Stewart (convenor), L. Woolliams, G. Steele. Executive committee: Messrs J. Banks (convenor), Stewart, and Fuller. It was decided to invifce • Lieut. Innis, of Paeroa, to act as military judge and Mr. J. Shiels as timekeeper. Major G. H. Weir is to be invited to act as supervisor and S.S.M. Bates was appointed marshal with Mr. F. E. Stewart, inspector of instruments. It was decided to draw the • attention of the Railway Department to the contest and invite the department to' run excursion trains as had been done in the case of the recent Hamilton contest. It' was resolved to invite private bank guarantees for the amount necessary to run the contest in Rotorua. It was reported that it would not he necessary to provide shields except in the case of the hy'mn test which was a new seetion introduced into the programme. An offer had been received to donate a shield for this seetion. It would be necessary, however for the committee to supply sets of medals for the first in the quickstep (B and C grade), first in the test selection (B and C grade), hymn test and boys' solo. It was decided to ascertain particulars in regard to wet weather insurance.
