MORE DAYLIGHT

When a house is gloomy and depressing the sensible house- j wife throws open windows and j doors and removes anything | which is obstructing the free entry of sunshine and daylight. ] New Zealand is gloomy and the people are depressed — more depressed than the actual facts warrant. We may not be able immediately to remove the causes, but we can at least brighten the outlook by making the most use of the sunshine. Medical men recommend this strongly, and business men should second their efforts. More snnlight j would both improve health and brighten business. Among the numerous bills of which notice was given this week, however, there was no Summer Time Extension Bill. When summer time ended in March this year there was general regret that Parliament had not made provision for its continuance. It was widely felt that an extension at least until Easter would have been welcome and beneficial. This session the subject should have early consideration. It cannot be pleaded that there will be no time. By saving just one day of the aimless general debating a bill could be passed either to make the summer time change a full hour or to extend its duration. The public would be more grateful for such a bill than for all the speeches likely to be made on the Address-in-Reply. And it wpuld be more cheering.
