''A.,court. hecomes, hardened," His Worship added, " but this case is sickening." . , r William.Dayid KeiRor of Isla Bank pleaded guilty to three ..charges of failing ,.to supply cattle.with proper and sufficient .food while George Aitken, who was in charge. of the cattle, was .similarly- eharged. It was stated that three animals in question had been fonnd dead from lack of . food. . Defendant Aitken, said that he had done his b.est to save the cattle. He had written to the inspector of stock in Invercargill about the matter. His Worship: And in the 'meantime, the cattle were dying. • Defendant reiterated that he had done what vhe could. lie could • not accept an offer made by a neighbour because the cattle did not belong to him. His Worship: It would serve you right if I sentenced you to a term oi imprisonment to show you that animals have f eelings as well as you have, and that they must be attended to. Defendants were convicted, apd ordered to come up f or sentence. within 12 months if called upon.
