FLOODS, WAR AND EARTHQUAKES TAKE TOLL OF THOUSANDS CALAMITY IN INTERIOR

(Rec. 12.40 a.m.) Shanghai, Sept. 27. When not at war, floods and earthquakes talce a tremendous toll _ in China. Official reports at Nanking show that in the Yellow River floods this winter, approximately 50>°5J[J lost their lives and that 2,000,000 were adversely effected.. One million are starving and are receiving Telief. A brief message now reports that in an earthquake in west Szechuen it is estimated that at least 7,000 Chinese perished dnring three shakes which rocked the Mowsein and Heisinlcow districts, where thousands of houses collapsed. Investigators consider that it was the worst calamity of its kind in the past century.
