THE TIME FOR RECEIPT OF TENDERS EXTENDED TEN DAYS N.Z. PREFERENCE

Wellington, Friday. Mr. H. H. Sterling, chairman of the Railways Board^ to-day announced that after a conference with the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, it had heen decided to extend the time for receiving tenders for the construction of the new Wellington railway station. The period would he extended hy ten days and. tenders wouid now close on Octoher 2.
This was heing done to give New Zealand manufacturers every opportunity to make contacts with prospeetive tenderers -and if necessary to arrive at an alternative price to he quoted for New Zealand and imported material. Mr. Sterling stated that it was believed that this extension in the period would he of material assistance to New Zealand. manufacturers and would enable the fullest informatiou to he given. In this way, the policy of the board and the Government pf suppor-ting local industry, could be applied to the contract.
