BIGAMY
WOMAN'S FANCY FOR NAVAL MEN LEADS TO TROUBLE TWO SAILOR HUSBAND S Auckland, Thursday Charges of committing bigamy and of securing money by false pretences were admitted in the Supreme Court by May Matilda Lowden, aged 25 years. She was charged that on or about October 13, 1931, being already married, she went through the form of marriage with Gilbert Samuel John Glass thereby committing bigamy. The second charge was that, with intent to defraud, she secured the sum of £13 from a company by falsely representing that a piano was her personal property and was unencumbei*ed. The evidence showed that the accused married a naval seaman in 1929 and that later he went to England. Accused had met Glass only two days before marrying him. He was also a naval petty officer and left for England four weeks after their marriage. Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence on the bigamy charge and was remanded for sentence on the second charge.
