FORTUNE IN A WHALE
YALUABLE AMBERGRIS FOUND. A catch worth a small fortune was recently made by a fisherman of Ponta Delaga (Azores). Inside a whale which he caught he found 50 kilogrammes (approximately 1 cwt.) of ambergris ,the valuable substance used in ithe manufacture of perfume, which is worth several thousands of pounds. Ambergris, or "grey amber," is a fatty, infiammable substance, which is the secretiori of the sperm whale, and is usually found floating on the sea or washed up on the shore. A pieee of ambergris weighing 2 cwt, which was found a few years ago, was valued at £35,840.
