BUCK JONES STARRING. v | Buck Jones' role of the heroic •'cavalry scout back in the story West 'of 1870 in his latest starring film, /"Tfeason," at tlie Grahdi Theatre, 'Thursday, recalls the remark'able "share these scouts have played in the rbuiTdmg up of the wild West. Famous figures such as Buffalo Bill, Kit Carson, Pawnee Bill — dead shots with rifle or six-gun, equal'ly 'handy with the knife, wonderful 'horsemen, resourceful, fearless char- : acters — all belong to the same school 'as Jeff Connors, crack cavalry scout, ' brought to the screen by Jones. These cavalry scouts of the West, of fifty or sixty years ago were picked men — carefully chosen for theia; knowledge of the wild country, their :fighting ability, their intelligence and ,-their trustworthy qualities. That's the kind of a character Jones plays ,in jhis new picture. In "Treason" Jones is detailed to 1 bring back, dead or alive, a notorious •'woman soldier who, at the head of a large force has ravaged the country in the heetic days at the close of th.e. Civil War. In order to do so, he first 'has to do some secret service work and discover where her headquarters -are, then to get there he has to capture a prospective recruit to her 'ranks, let himself be branded with the shameful Indian mark of the squaw stealer so that he can impersonate the other, and gain access to her ranks. Then, single-handed, he has tohrave the wrath of her hnndreds of desperate followers, by guile to, get her away from the camp, and bring •her back to the fort- — a real man's 'job. i Shirley Grey, blonde actress who 'has achieved a fine name for herself as an actress since entering films from the . stage recently, plays the principal feminine role in "Treason."
