MAKE VERY SUCCESSFUL HAULS IN ASHBURTON SHOPS SOME DARING TIIEFTS
-By Telegraph— Copyrlght).
Ashburton, Wednesday Two men who visited Ashburton last Friday spent a good deal of time stealing goods from shops and their daring methods enabled them to walk out of a number of business premises carrying articles valued at neaily £100. The thefts took place at the busiest hours on the busiest day of the weelt. None of the slioplceepers who were robbed knew about their loss until the police asked them to identify the articles recovered. At an outfitter's shop the men took over £15 worth of goods. One engaged the attention of the man behind the counter while the other tried on overcoats and suits and looked at a tie and scarf. When they left they carried away an overcoat, a suit and a number of ties and a shirt. At another shop they went away with several pairs of trousers, two suits, an overcoat, several scarves and some cutlery Elsewhere they took watches and inexpensive jewellery.
